Being a film buff is not easy. Just like the cat, curiosity almost kills you as you wait with patience while the actors and directors taunt you with teasers and trailers. New film posters and promos make their way to the TV almost everyday. And to make matters worse, release dates of highly anticipated movies change quite often. So what does a desi film buff do in such a situation?

1. Udta Punjab (January, 2016)

Punjab has had a scarred past wherein it was infected with substance abuse and caused doom for a lot of families. Set in the backdrop of those turbulent times, Udta Punjab tells the story of Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh and how they ride the wave.

2. Mohenjo Daro (January 22, 2016)

An upcoming period film directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, this one showcases an epic adventure-love story. Featuring Hrithik Roshan and Pooja Hegde in lead roles, the movie promises a grand spectacle of the ancient city of Mohenjo-daro in the era of the Indus Valley civilisation that dates back to 2600 BC. Given the successful collaboration of Hrithik and Gowariker in Jodha Akbar and A. R. Rahman’s background score, Mohenjo Daro definitely looks promising.

3. Airlift (January 22, 2016)

The one stunt which immortalized Akshay Kumar’s image as a daredevil action hero in the industry was the one in which he stands atop a helicopter and jumps off. The Khiladi Kumar will be in the helicopter once again in the movie Airlift and this time, he’ll be rescuing people without caring about his own life. Airlift is an upcoming film based on the backdrop of the Gulf War in 1990 which saw the biggest evacuation in the history of mankind in Kuwait. Akshay Kumar stars in the movie as an evacuation specialist and is cast opposite the powerhouse performer Nimrat Kaur. So, are you ready for the flight?

4. Sanam Re (February 12, 2016)

Last time Divya Khosla Kumar directed a movie, it stood out for its breathtaking locations. And going by the recent photographs of Sanam Re, the upcoming romantic drama also promises a beautiful spectacle. The film stars a buffed up Pulkit Samrat, fresh as ever Yami Gautam and the glamorous Urvashi Rautela along with veteran actor Rishi Kapoor. What else do you need in life?

5. Fitoor (February 12, 2016)

Indian directors seem to have aced the formula of basing their movies on classic English novels, be itOmkara, Haider or now Fitoor. Based on Charles Dickens’ novel Great Expectations, Fitoor stars an unexpected cast of Aditya Roy Kapur, Katrina Kaif and Tabu in leading roles. Shot mostly in Kashmir, it seems Bollywood’s fling with the mountains  just got another shot in the arm!

6. Baadshaho (March 25, 2016)

Baadshaho brings back the powerful pairing of Milan Luthria and Ajay Devgn to the silver screen. The upcoming 2016 Indian drama film will also see an ensemble cast boasting of Pulkit Samrat, Shruti Haasan and Lisa Haydon. Add to it the magic of Luthria with an ensemble cast and the movie already looks like a winner.

7. Fan (April 15, 2016)

Fan is an upcoming 2016 film featuring Shah Rukh Khan in a double role, both as the superstar and his fan. Produced under the YRF banner, Fan has been garnering a lot of press for its leaked pictures showing SRK as an awestruck fan pushed and manhandled outside his own real-life house Mannat. Also, if rumours are to be believed, Hollywood make-up artist Greg Cannom has worked on SRK’s new look and going by the frenzy around the movie, it seems this one will shatter all box-office records.

8. Baaghi: A Rebel For Love (April 29, 2016)

Fresh and unconventional pairings have worked at the box office in the past and many more are yet to steal the show in the coming year as well. One such fresh pair is Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor coming together for their action/drama movie Baaghi in the year 2016. The movie which will see Shroff in the role of a rebel who goes to great lengths to fight for his love will also bring together the trio of Sajid-Sabbir-Tiger. Whether the trio can weave the magic like their previous outing Heropanti, only time will tell!

9. Dishoom (April 15, 2016)

Talk of unconventional pairings and 2016 will serve you ample portions of it. Dishoom is an upcoming out and out action-adventure film directed by Rohit Dhawan. Starring a never-seen-before combo of John Abraham, Varun Dhawan, Akshaye Khanna and Jacqueline Fernandez in lead roles, Dishoomseems to be an out-and-out paisa vasool entertainer.

10. Azhar (May 13, 2016)

Come to think of it, hasn’t dream debuts, dressing room politics and match fixing scandals in cricket always been a subject of great curiosity. Giving a platform to all all these and more, Azhar, the movie is an upcoming Indian biographical sports film based on the life of the former Indian international cricketer, Mohammad Azharuddin, who was banned for life after a match fixing scandal in 2000. Bringing Emraan Hashmi in the title role and Prachi Desai as his first wife, the cast already looks all set to infuse life to an already super dramatic story.

11. Housefull 3 (June 3, 2016)

Yes, the Housefull gang is back with its 3rd installment. Yes, it’s helmed by funny man Sajid Khan. Yes, it seems as much fun as its previous two counterparts. While Akshay Kumar, Ritesh Deshmukh reprise their roles in the movie, it’s Abhishek Bachchan, Nargis Fakhri and Lisa Haydon who’ll add more spice and frolic to the madhouse that Housefull franchise is!

12. Raees (July 3, 2016)

There is a certain amount of honesty and charisma with which Shah Rukh Khan pulls of grey characters that the audiences can’t help but adore. Raees, the upcoming crime-thriller set in the ’80s stars Shah Rukh Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Mahira Khan in intriguing roles. The movie is a story of a cruel and clever bootlegger (played by Shah Rukh Khan) whose business is seriously challenged and eventually thwarted by a tough cop Ghulam Patel (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui). The movie is also rumoured to be loosely based on the life of Ahmedabad-based Don Abdul Latif.

13. Sultan (Eid, 2016)

Come next Eid and Salman Khan will be back to own the centre stage, quite literally. Sultan is an upcoming Indian action/thriller by YRF which features Salman Khan as a 40-year-old wrestler Sultan Ali Khan from Haryana. While fans can’t contain their excitement ever since the movie was announced, the teaser of the film has made matters worse and Eid never seemed so far!

14. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil  (June 3, 2016)

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is an upcoming romantic film by the king of candy floss romance, Karan Johar. Directing Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for their first time, KJo added more sugar to the cake by also roping Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in prominent roles. Being shot at exotic locales like  London, Paris and New York currently, ADHM is certainly not going to be your typical love triangle, which is why there’s so much buzz around the project.

15. Dangal (December 23, 2016)

Sports biographies are the flavour of Bollywood and adding more aroma to the genre, Dangal will see Aamir Khan portraying the role of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat. The upcoming Indian biographical sports drama film directed by Nitesh Tiwari has already become the talk of the town due to Aamir Khan’s insane body transformation which saw him piling up around 30 kgs to fit into the character of a wrestler. So sit tight because come Christmas 2016 and the perfectionist is ready to flip you over with his moves in the ring!
